Soil Environmental Biogeochemistry
This theme investigates how carbon, nutrients, water and pollutants move through soils and landscapes, and how these processes control ecosystem productivity and environmental quality. We study soil organic matter formation and stability, nutrient cycling and microbial ecology across forests, grasslands, croplands and rehabilitated lands, and link these processes to water quality and sediment dynamics in rivers and coastal zones. Our work provides the mechanistic foundation for sustainable land management and climate-smart agriculture.
